Shadow of the Cacklefiend
The Pan is an area in southern Eden so blighted that not even sand remains. All life is stripped here. The pan is a flat land of white bedrock, with massive fissures running through it from which branch out smaller cracks.
The Pan was formerly the sight of the Lizardfolk civilization before the Haksoon completely and utterly annihilated them. Nothing moves here but the wind. No one ever comes here, so not even zombies stalk through the Pan. The only people who come to this ghost land are the Niyyat gnolls who sometimes stop here to perform the final ritual for recognizing a new Dervish. The ritual is known simply as Communion.
The Dervish-to-be is drugged and taken unconscious into the pan and then left with no food, shelter, water or even clothing. They must wander the pan until, starving, dehydrated and suffering horrible sunburns the Dervish has an epiphany or vision of some sort. What exactly they see is known only to the Dervishes for they do not speak of it. Many die before experiencing their vision, and many more do not recover from their time on the Pan and whither away.
